Leadership is often portrayed as a quality that involves pep talks and being the face of an organization. I have found through my experience in the Educational Leadership program that this is only a small portion of what leadership is about. Leadership involves collaboration with stakeholders, building a positive climate and culture, developing a shared educational mission and vision, strategic planning, leading through the uncertainties that come with change, and the occasional pep talk.
The Leadership competency is an area that I view as a strength for myself. I have collaborated with other educators to develop and advance the mission and vision of my school through my work in several committees including the Student Assistance Team (SAT), Staff Development Committee, Student Climate and Culture Committee, Meet and Confer Committees, PLC teams, and MEIRS/ESSA teams. I have also filled the role of co-president of my local teacher's union to promote the needs and priorities of the teachers in Fergus Falls.
