J. Values and Ethics
of Leadership

With an everchanging technological world comes a whole new set of expectations for education. As technology changes, our educational values and ethics must adapt to fit the times. The overriding concepts of valuing learning and ethical behavior do not change, but the capacity to fail in this grows as new ethical dilemmas arise.

The Values and Ethics of Leadership competency area is a strength of mine and has been for most of my career. Two of the four components of this competency area deal with understanding the role of education in a democratic society and helping learners grow into informed citizens. This is at the heart of what I do as a social studies teacher. Another of the components is balancing community demands in the best interest of learners. This was a vital skill when I helped develop the ALC distance learning guidelines through the COVID-19 pandemic. The Code of Ethics for Administrators is a key component of ED 634: Personal Communications and Ethics. It is a valuable tool to help administrators face a constantly changing world with a strong ethical foundation.
