One of the most important skills to intentionally develop as an educational leader is to learn and understand the needs of all students. Throughout my experience in the Educational Leadership program I have had many opportunities to develop equity and cultural competency skills and apply that knowledge to a diverse population of students.
The Equity and Culturally Responsive Leadership competency is an area of strength for me. I have had significant training in equity, adverse childhood experiences, implicit bias, and cultural competency in recent years. As union co-president I arranged a cultural competency training for teacher relicensure for our district and worked with district administration to ensure a safe working environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. The SAT team provided me with valuable experience in ensuring each student has equitable access to educational opportunities and is treated with an understanding of their culture and context.
