F. Communication

Effective communication is one of the most important skills that a leader can possess. Without effective communication, many of the other competency areas are rendered useless because the message is not being relayed properly. School leaders need to be able to communicate with the community, school staff, and students, and they need to be able to do it through multiple different mediums of technology in an efficient and timely manner.

The Communication competency is an area that I consider to be a strength. I have had many opportunities throughout my career and the Educational Leadership program to develop and hone my communication skills. I have helped to develop shared understanding of the mission and vision of the Fergus Falls ALC, facilitated team discussions as a union co-president leading executive board meetings and meeting monthly with the superintendent and school board members, created a meet and confer committee for the 935 Special Education Cooperative, summarized information for both administration and the teacher's union, and created a Facebook and Twitter page for the Fergus Falls ALC.
