Effective leaders need to be able to recognize a problem, analyze how to solve the problem, reframe the problem for other stakeholders, and make a decision on next steps. The Judgment and Problem Analysis competency is an area that I consider to be a great strength of mine. I have had many opportunities to hone my judgment and problem analysis skills through my practicum experience and Educational Leadership coursework. Many of the committees and teams that I have been on exist to identify problems related to student learning and success, analyze available data, and implement solutions.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused an entire new category of problems that needed original solutions unique to our district and specific school situations. By working with administration and the superintendent I was able to learn several new methods of gathering data quickly from staff and families to make informed decisions. I was also asked to analyze data related to semester one course failures at the high school to suggest solutions to hybrid and distance learning instructional challenges and help create a new model for summer school.
